Safety First, Safety Last, Safety ALWAYS!

Safety is our number one priority, all day, every day!

Picture
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office welcomes Larry Reik as our newest member. He recently retired from his position as Chief of Police with the Eastlake Police Department. Deputy Reik is highly regarded for his significant contributions and dedicated service to the City of Eastlake, Lake County community and to the law enforcement profession in general for some many years. In his new position as Deputy Sheriff, Larry will be assigned as the first School Resource Officer at the St. Gabriel School in Concord Township beginning January 6, 2024. This position comes after extensive collaboration between the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and St. Gabriel School administration who shared the same priorities and goals for the school and community.

Deputy Larry Reik was born and raised in Wickliffe, Ohio. After graduating from High School in 1986, he served in the US Navy from 1986-1990. Deputy Reik was hired at the Eastlake Police Department in 1992 at which time he attended the Cleveland Heights Police Academy. Among many career accomplishments at the Eastlake Police Department, Deputy Reik was promoted to position of Sergeant in 1999, before being promoted to the position of Lieutenant in 2000. He attended the FBI National Academy in 2007 and in 2011, Deputy Reik was promoted to Chief of Eastlake Police Department. He retired from the Eastlake Police Department as Chief in September of 2024.

Deputy Reik has always prioritized the importance of having Police Officers dedicated to schools. He worked weekly within the Willoughby Eastlake school system as a uniformed police officer from 2008 until 2024. Deputy Reik has been married for 31 years and has three adult children. He looks forward to getting started by meeting the staff, students and parents at St. Gabriel’s School.

Building Security & Crisis ManagementAll doors of the school building are locked to outside access during the school day to insure the safety of all within the building. A doorbell is located to the left facing the school's main door.

All who enter after being admitted by school office staff must stop at the office window, sign in, and receive a name badge if they will be staying to visit or work in the school. A second set of inside doors are then opened by office staff to allow admittance into the building.

There is also an extensive written St. Gabriel Parish Building Security Policy that describes rules and guidelines for all individuals and groups using and/or visiting any areas in the school building after school dismissal hours.

If a student is to be released to his or her parent or guardian during the school day to leave early or for medical appointments, the parent is required to ring in at the Main Office entrance doors, and sign their child out at the office. The child is then called from their classroom to come to the office to meet with their parent or guardian.

We are avid partners with our local first responders for yearly refresher courses in crisis management and monthly spot checks of our safety procedures. Our building is equipped with state of the art safety measures.
