St. Gabriel Parish places a high importance on the value of Catholic education. Through the generous efforts of St. Gabriel staff members, parishioners, and sponsors we are pleased to offer scholarships in support of Catholic elementary and secondary education so that our young people may experience full immersion in a Christ-centered educational atmosphere.
Applications will be available in April and due in May. FOR GRADUATING EIGHTH GRADERS MOVING ON TO CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL: Faculty Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was created by the St. Gabriel faculty in memory of colleagues who have passed away to assist an eighth-grade student who will attend a Catholic high school. The scholarship is awarded in the amount of $650 to a student who demonstrates academic effort, commitment, performance, and parish and community involvement. The scholarship is awarded at the eighth-grade graduation ceremony. The Donald & Elizabeth Wiertel Scholarship This scholarship is offered by the family of Donald and Elizabeth Wiertel to honor their parent's memory and love of CYO Athletics at St. Gabriel School. Donald was a beloved football coach who touched many lives while Elizabeth was his support and cheerleader for decades while their sons played sports. Elizabeth helped CYO become what is today serving as the SGS CYO Booster President. Two eighth grade students will be awarded this scholarship. The Fr. Robert Pahler Memorial Scholarship Over his thirteen years as Pastor of Saint Gabriel Parish, Father Robert Pahler (April 18, 1929 — December 10, 2023) was always a very strong supporter of faith formation for our parish youth. In gratitude for his dedicated service to our parish community and based on his own desire to ensure that youth from our parish would be afforded the opportunity to grow in their faith, The Reverend Robert E. Pahler Scholarship Fund was established in 1990. Father Pahler was especially concerned that members of our parish would be able to enjoy the benefits of a Catholic high school education. To address his concern, this scholarship fund has been developed to offer a scholarship each year to an eighth grader from our parish community who is seeking admission into a Catholic high school. FOR KINDERGARTEN FAMILIES: The Matthew J. Pohovey Memorial Scholarship *Please note that if you received EdChoice in full tuition, you should not apply. This scholarship was created by Kim and Mark Pohovey's to preserve their son’s memory to assist families with genuine financial need. This scholarship is awarded to a kindergarten family in the amount of one-eighth of the annual cost of tuition and is renewed annually until the eighth-grade graduation of the child. The scholarship is awarded at the kindergarten graduation ceremony. For more information, contact: Alicia Henrikson |
